Revving Up The Metabolism

Revving Up The Metabolism

A problem I hear time and time again from people of all ages and all sizes is that they're too fat. The solution these people often times hear is to eat healthier, eat less, and/or exercise more. The way I look at it is the metabolism is under-performing and simply needs a push. Exercise is also important, but how can you exercise when you don't have any energy to do so? Exactly. I've had periods where I just can't do anything, I would just sit around and waste away instead of improving myself. After some time I decided that I had had enough of doing nothing during those periods and looked to my past experience, others experiences, and medical science. What I discovered were several ways to increase energy, which in turn increased activity, which in turn increased metabolism.

1) Eat Healthy

Sorry to bug you with this one, but it is perhaps the most important of all of these tips and tricks. Eating healthy allows one to maximize nutrition while at the same time minimizing empty calories devoid of any nutritional value. You should always look at the nutritional value of what you eat first, then the calories. Eating more fruits and vegetables is a surefire way to increase your nutritional stores which will in turn help to rev the metabolism up. If you are eating healthy foods then you should eat as much as you want. This will help burn the fat and feed your muscles(and body!) with energy.

Examples of healthy food along with the primary nutrients for which they could be used for are as follows:
  1. Chia
Should be a food staple, eat 1 oz a day to help curb overeating, provide dietary fiber, increase nutrient absorption, and blunt rises in blood glucose.
Note: Unlike flaxseed chia is not estrogenic.
    Primary nutrients(1 oz): Manganese(30%), Phosphorous(27%), Calcium(18%), and Omega-3(4.9g)
    Price range: $8-$15/lb

Boosting Testosterone Naturally

So, let's start this blog off with its first informative post. Let's go with testosterone. Also, note that my writing style is conversational and not uptight. Also, if you want links to research regarding what I say(unless it has a basis in my own training experience) then simply ask for them.

Testosterone is the male sex hormone. It is androgenic(controls and develops masculine characteristics), increase spermatogenesis(creation of sperm), promotes the development of said sperm, plays a huge part in sex drive(libido) and other such aspects of life, increases protein synthesis, increases muscle growth, deeper voice... The list goes on and on. It is produced in the testes by males and the ovaries(in minute amounts) by women. For more info there are a variety of resources that you can turn to, however the point of this post is not a comprehensive look at testosterone, but rather means of boosting it and controlling any deleterious effects of it.

1.) Cold Showers

Cold showers(I prefer ice baths because then I am totally immersed) help to burn fat by forcing the body to rev up its metabolism. The result of this loss in fat is an increase in testosterone, I also prefer the method of taking a cold shower/ice bath daily because after a while it is easy and doesn't seem too "hardcore". The way to safely do this is to gradually lower the heat of your shower/bath, that way you do not shock your body into a shutdown. Also, after getting out of the shower, try to air dry for a minute afterwards and don't stay near sources of heat, no need to confuse(shock) your body. Contrast showers are another thing entirely.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Jesse Anderson and I have been training Parkour for about 5 years now. I got into strength and conditioning work about 3 years back and the science of exercise around the same time. I got into health afterwards due to pressuring by my bodybuilding friend, Roma. I will post from my own knowledge base articles relating to health, fitness, training, and anything else I have to share which is worth sharing. I hope you enjoy this blog and I hope that it serves some use to you. If you have any questions feel free to ask them.
